Once Upon A Kidnapping

I laughed at that. "Wow... bad baby! You need to sleep at night!" I wagged my finger at her belly. I always had to ask about the baby. She'd never tell me anything otherwise. "And how are you feeling, other than tired?"

He seemed genuinely curious so I decided to just let him wonder about things and ask if he wanted to. "I'm sore, my back and legs hurt a lot but other than that it's nothing too serious. I'm just trying not to overwork. You seem really curious..."

I shrugged. "Well, you don't tell me anything... so I have to kind of poke and prod. Do you need me to get you anything for your aches?" I asked. I was trying so hard to be nice, but she seemed to not want to talk. Then again, she was probably terrified of me. That made me a little sad. I wasn't going to kill her, so I didn't want her to be scared of me.

"Um... normally heat feels good so I just get a hot water bottle and use it if I'm aching too much. Standing a lot doesn't help but I can still make dinner so that's not a problem..." I made his plate and set it at the table, "I'm sorry I don't talk about the baby a lot... I'm scared if I get going that I'll keep going on about it."

I nodded some. "I don't mind if you talk though." I said softly. "So, you keep calling it a she... you think it'll be a girl?" I asked.

"I don't know to be honest, but I'm kind of hopeful... twins run in my family and I think I get nervous sometimes that I might have twins one day..." I was being so honest with him, I just started talking about what I dreamed of and my wishes and fears. I felt so safe.

"You don't want twins?" I asked curiously and took a bite of dinner. I wondered how she felt about knowing that her baby was the king's daughter. That her baby was from a man who obviously didn't love her. It almost seemed sad... but she seemed pretty excited about her baby. That was a good thing.

"I'm kind of scared of the idea of having to deliver twice at one time..." I said, "I'm terrified of just one alone actually, I wasn't sure how I felt about ever getting pregnant in the first place." I never told anyone that. "When I found out they congratulated me, treated it like it was a miracle."

I sighed and my shoulders sagged, "I'm so scared."

"I... I can't even imagine that.." I said, laughing some. "I can't imagine having to go through birthing a baby. But you get the reward of knowing you just brought someone into this word."

He made me smile, "B-By the way... my name is Janelle." I said softly, I was trying to get the baby to stop kicking. I hoped she wouldn't pull an all nighter. "And I... can kind of imagine it. I'm scared of the pain... I hate pain."

"Janelle... that's a pretty name." I smiled. "And yeah, I hate pain too... that- yeah... I don't like pain either..." I was going to say that was how I became a good assassin, but she probably didn't care about that. >.>

"Thanks... so what made you want to become an assassin? Were you raised that way?" I asked, leaning back in my chair a little bit. I wanted to prop up my feet but there was nothing beneath the table. D;

"I was raised that way." I nodded. "My dad died before I was born and my mother was killed by for a contract. Because the assassin didn't know of any other family, I was raised here." I scratched my head. "I sort of wish I knew my mother, but I never knew her, so there is no reason to be angry about it, you know? What happened, happened."

"So is that why?" I asked, putting my hands on my belly, "Why you don't want to kill me?" I liked him a lot, and sometimes I wondered if h felt the same way... "That means a lot."

I shrugged. "That could be part of it..." I said with a smile. "But I don't know... it wasn't really an extremely well thought-out plan. I just remember thinking one day that I knew I wouldn't be able to kill you once your baby was born."

"I wish I had known that you weren't going to sooner... I was so scared all the time and I cried myself to sleep. I'm not so scared of death as I am what I'm leaving behind." I explained.

"Well, I wasn't sure what to do. I mean, I knew I needed to fake your death, but I wasn't sure how to go about it, so I didn't tell you in case I really had to kill you. I don't like to go back on my word, so I like to know I can back it up before giving my word." I finished my dinner and pushed the plate aside.

"If you can't save me then do what you have to do... just make sure she goes somewhere safe. I want her to be raised well." I didn't know what I was facing but I felt like I could trust him to make sure she went somewhere good.

But I preferred to think I could be the best mommy ever instead. <3 "A-Anyway... I baked some cookies today."

"I will take care of her like she is my own." I said with a nod. "And I thought I smelled something nice... where are they? Can I have some?"

"Thank you." I got up and opened a jar and got a couple out, one for me and one for him. I sat down close to him and handed the cookie over with raised brows. "Enjoy."

"Thank you." I tried it and smiled. "This... is quite possibly the best cookie I have ever had."

"It's a special recipe my grandmother taught me." I leaned against his arm and closed my eyes, he was warm and it felt so good because I was hurting so much. "You're so warm." I grabbed his arm and cuddled against him.

What is a man supposed to do in a situation such as this? Is it a normal thing to want to just... cuddle some guy you barely know? But... I couldn't just shrug her off... she was really cute.

"Ah, r-really? I d-don't get cold easy." I said, feeling a bit nervous. She was acting seductive again, I concluded, but I wasn't sure why. I wasn't going to kill her anymore...

"I think I like you a bit..." I told him, "thank you for saving me... trying to save me." I squeezed his arm a bit harder, but while still being gentle.

So she was being seductive because I wasn't going to kill her?

"Ah, y-you're welcome." And she said she liked me. What did that mean? What does like mean?

Ah! She squeezed my arm! What do I do? Is she checking my muscle size? Does she want me to flex? I don't understand!
