To Whom It May Concern

I stormed over and took the phone out of his hands. "Daniel, please. He already said he can't sing. You will have to cancel. I'm sorry, but singing badly until his voice is out would do even worse for Matt's rep. You'll just have to do without until he's better. Besides, isn't his health worth more important than money?"

I had my hand on my hip and brows furrowed. I meant business.

I heard Dan submit which meant he had finally gotten it through his head that I was really sick. I didn't feel good and I just wanted to get over this.

I took my phone back and closed it. I also turned it off to avoid any other unwanted conversation besides with Rae.

I sat beside him on the couch and frowned a bit. "I'm sorry, are you not feeling any better at all?" I know my eyes reflected worry. How could they not? My heart was racing.

"Nothing is helping it." I said in a very quiet voice, "And there is this weird taste and it's just hurting so bad." I picked up one of the couch pillows and put it over my head. This was unfair.

"Sweetheart... why don't we take you to the hospital? They'll at least tell us how to fix it..."

My eyes popped open and I tossed the pillow off, "I hate hospitals. I don't feel like answering questions at all." My voice was really getting bad. It was pointless to even talk.

I sighed. "I know you do... but it seems this is only going to get worse!" I rubbed his back soothingly.

"Okay, we'll go. I'd like to be able to talk and sing again." I got up and went to the bedroom to change and get some shoes on.

At the hospital it was confirmed that I had some form of something in my throat that could easily cause me worse pain or even start bleeding which wasn't a good thing. They suggested a form of surgery to remove the problem.

Lovely. I hated hospitals, anesthesia and all of that... this wasn't going to be fun.

I grinned at him before they took him back. "At least you'll have your hair after this one! I love you!" I kissed him passionately. "I'm praying for you!"

I appreciated that a lot. When I came out though I heard Dan through a guilt trip when he heard I'd gone into surgery. My throat was sore after but not nearly as horrible as it had been though which was amazing.

I needed two weeks recovery before I could do any singing. ._.

I sat in his room with my hot pink Bible. I hummed a little tune from I couldn't remember where and flipped the page.

"What are you reading today?" I asked, trying to bend and see over her shoulder. I loved reading over her shoulder when she read her Bible.

I grinned. "Psalms 43! I love Psalms!"

"Psalms are very great to read when you need some encouragement." I ran my fingers through her hair, "We should get a frap after this..."

"Oh... that'd be wonderful!!!" I grinned happily, glad he was okay. "You feeling better?"

"A little sore but I feel alive!" I grinned, "A frap would be perfect so I should be out of her soon enough."

-Five or six months later-

I smiled as I stepped out of the house. It was a gorgeous day and I was going to the park to have a picnic with Kay. Dan and Matt were out doing... whatever. Kay and I had planned this day for a while. Girl's day out! Picnic basket in hand, I headed down the sidewalk with a grin on my face, infect other people with it.

Eventually, I came upon a place where I had to cross the street. I was about to go when I saw that a semi was going to run the light. I stopped, it was a ways away but it was better to be safe. I set the basket down just before a young kid ran down the white striped on the road, only paying attention to the sign. I gasped and looked down the street. There wasn't a lot of time.

God tugged on my heart.

No God, I don't want to die!" I thought frantically as the seconds passed like molasses in winter.

He tugged again.

A tear rolled down my cheek as I glanced down at the little basket at my feet. Time was running out.

"I'm sorry Matt, don't blame Him." I whispered before running down the same white lines. "Stop!!" I screamed. The kid turned. The Semi was upon us. I pushed him out of the way.

The rest is unbelievable clear. The semi tried to stop but didn't have time. I remember hitting the grill and slipping under the axle. I hit the axle a few times as I bounced up and down under the truck due to it's momentum. I landed somewhere in the middle of the intersection and four seconds later, blacked out.

I remembered feeling something warm under me just before blacking out.

-*Kay*-

It didn't take me long to get to the area where the crosswalk was but it looked like people were piling around because of an accident. I walked up to get a closer look but paramedics and police officers wouldn't let me pass. They were trying to get others to back away too.

Media was swarming in which got me even more concerned. Where was Rae? I pushed through the people that weren't cops and media and saw someone I knew being loaded onto a stretcher.

Immediately I was overcome with the realization that this situation was more serious than I had thought it to be. My first instinct was to call Matthew.

The girl on the stretcher was Rae.

I came to around the time they were loading me into the ambulance. "M-My husband... where is he? He thinks I'm at a picnic. I'm supposed to go to a picnic today." I mumbled, almost incoherently. They weren't listening. Why weren't they listening?"

"The woman's name has yet to be formally released, but witnesses say it was Rae Drake, wife of Matthew Drake, a famous Christian rock artist, and a Christian musician herself. Witnesses say a young boy walked into the street when the sign allowed passing. A semi was planning on running the light, Mrs. Drake saw and tried to save the young boy, putting herself in danger. Word on her condition has yet to be revealed."

A reporter. Already? All I did was save the kid... "Matt... where's Matt?"

The paramedics let me get on after I told them who I was and I was in the middle of listening to the phone ring while I tried to contact Matthew. Dadgummit! Where the heck?!

When I heard him answer I practically screamed in delight but began to ramble aimlessly while the paramedics worked.

"What did you say?"

I stopped when I heard that and then had to repeat myself, "There's been an accident, don't..."

He hung up.

"Panic..." Dogonit...

-later at hospital-

Well, at least my conscience is clear. I thought dismally as I stared up at the plain white ceiling in the somewhat plain hospital room with the somewhat snazzy menu on the wall describing it's somewhat plain menu choices.

I closed my eye because of the headache I formed and scratched at the itchy patch over my left eye. Good thing the right side of my body faced the door.

I was sitting at the side of her bed holding roses. They were yellow because I thought she'd like the color. I'd cried really hard when I heard about it, canceled what I was in the middle of and left Dan alone to deal with the ruckus.

My body was so tired from stress. I wanted her to be okay.

I looked over with my good eye and smiled. I didn't look good. My face was skinned up and half my body. Road rash is nothing to take lightly. Thankfully I only broke my left wrist. "They're beautiful... thank you." I loved yellow roses. They were my favorite.

I lifted my head to look at her and laid her Bible next to them, "I brought this from home. I thought you were strong but you are stronger than I thought too."

I tilted my head back and forth, refraining from shaking so my headache wouldn't flare up. "No Matt. I was scared to death. That's not strength... and thanks for bringing my Bible. You always seem to know when I need it the most, don't you?"
