Our Little Recap

I took the fork and put what she reached for on her plate, "Calm down, it's okay. We all need prayer once in a while and I thought you really needed it." I finished and then sat back down.

I nodded and wiped at the tears. "You're really nice, Hayden." I said softly. "And... I did need it. It's still hard to look at myself and not see trash. I know God doesn't see it...but I do."

"I don't see it either, you might be looking in a foggy mirror, I'll clean it for you later just so you can see how beautiful you are." I was wanting to reach over and touch her hair but I knew that might be going too far.

I laughed a little at that. He was always really nice. "Thanks..." I took a bite of the pasta oh, it was delicious!

"So Keely told me she really likes you, apparently you really stood up for her today huh?" I ventured while slicing my chicken apart and scattering it through the pasta noodles.

"Y-Yes. Um... Amanda and Katie were being pushy and I could tell she didn't want to fight with them. I'm glad she likes me though." I smiled. "She's really sweet."

"She's gotten better about that, she used to be really prideful so it's amazing that she's opening up with you like that. Keely was born premature and without one of her legs so she takes pride in the fact that she's alive." I explained, "I mean I think less now since she witnessed her husband getting stabbed."

"Oh... that would do it." I said softly, nodding. "I can't imagine watching someone you love get stabbed. That must have been horrible!"

"She was in shock for a few days." I smiled though, "But she seems stronger and a bit more humble than before so I think it actually did something good for her... sad to say."

"Well, something like that... it's hard to stay the same after witnessing something so terrifying!" I exclaimed, getting worked up and eating my food... and a ton of it.

I didn't really want to say anything about how she was eating, she was kind of cute like that. >w< "Yeah, I agree with you there."

"Of course! It'd be very scary! I know I'd be scared! I don't know if I'd try to fight or just scream and run away! I give her points for fighting! She told me all about it today! So scary!" I was shoveling foor in my mouth and swallowing it at an incredible rate! I probably wasn't very appealing at all.

"You okay?" I asked with a chuckle, "You might want to slow down, I don't want you to choke on your food..."

I stopped and swallowed. "I'm fi-ne" I turned red again I'm sure when I covered my mouth. Hiccups, so unlady like and yet, that's what I get for eating faster than I can breathe. "E-Excu-USE me!!"

I got up and poured her a soda, setting down the ice cold glass in front of her, "Drink up." I finished eating after that and sighed tiredly, "I'm really at a loss with what to do with myself lately... I have so much on my mind."

I took a long drink and looked at him. "Like what? Can I help with any of it?"

"Mostly it's just how stuff is changing, I mean... Keely's pregnant and that's just so weird to me. I can't picture her having a baby... not that I'm unhappy about it!"

"Don't worry, she'll be really cute still! But really, you'll be happy to be an uncle? For some reason, I can see you spoiling her kids."

I wonder... "Will you spoil your own, or do you not want kids?"

"Oh trust me, I'll spoil that baby rotten... me?" I thought about it for a moment and nodded, "Yeah, I'd love kids, I'm a family kind of guy so... of course. In the right time though, I need to really finish with school and get into a better job."

"Is there any way I can help you do that? I don't want to just sit around here... I want to help!" I hiccuped again and drank another long sip of the soda he brought me.

"You want to help me have a family...?" I asked, trying to confirm what she was saying, I wasn't sure what she was getting at. "Or do you mean finish school or find a job? I'm sorry I must be out of it."

I nearly choked on the soda. "U-Uh-Uhm!! T-The s-school a-and job p-part! I'm sorry f-for confusing you!" I gasped. But then... it really wouldn't be so bad though, would it? Helping him have a family? But then, it wasn't an offer anyway.

"Oh that... haha." I kept looking at her though, having a family with her couldn't be so bad at all. "You don't have to, the school points out potential career paths I can take."

"But I can get a part time job and help pay for things!" I exclaimed. "O-Or full time! Whichever is better! Or if helping by keeping the house clean is what you need, I-I can do that too! I can do whatever you need me to do!" I stammered. "There's two of us now and it can get expensive quickly to keep paying for two people to eat!"

"I'm not controlling you, Kassie, if you want to get a job you can but you really don't have to, I don't want you to feel obligated to. But if you want we can put in a good word with Zeph, okay?"
