Look at the past....

Kay had just come from the bathroom when she saw him. Her face was pale, dark circles under her eyes and her lips were chapped. Some form of a rash was coming back on her face. It was serious.

"Thank you..." She whispered. Afterwords she barely could get even one more step before she collapsed.

Iwa picked her up quickly.
"Kay..." He carried her to the car, Mizu saw him and gaspped.
"Kay! What happened?! Kay, Iwa I'm sorry! She was asleep when I went out, she seamed fine then..."
"No Mizu... I wasn't paying enough attention.... This is all my fault."

Things were going so fast at the hospital. She went from one risk to another and then another. Oxygen, medications and talks of how she was going to deliver soon. She barely had a moment to take anything in at all.

Blood tests came next. Talks of having to do chemo again also appeared. And then she knew how badly she wanted to leave. She wanted it to be over.

She was crying so hard she couldn't even see straight. All those nights of making dinner - watching it get cold, not seeing him come home. Why did that have to happen? If she lost their baby that was it.

In the end it was her life or their child's life.

Iwa sat in the waiting room, hands folded, his head against his hands. He stared at the floor angry with himself, and worried for Kay and his child.

Mizu was trying to call Akito on the public phones by the door.

Akio turned from studying to pick up his cell, "Hello, this is Akio speaking." He answered, not sure what to expect especially when he saw the ID. It wasn't a specific number.

"Akito!" Mizu exclaimed, she sounded slightly relived. "Kay's..." She started to cry. "Kay's really hurt... Iwa's not paying any attention when I talk to him, and...." She sobbed whatever else she was going to say replaced by tears.

"Tell me where you are and I'll be there in about fifteen minutes, okay? Love you."

-Later-

Akio came through the automatic doors and upon seeing Mizu he wrapped her in a hug and gave her a kiss on her cheek, "Any news yet?" He asked, having become really close with the family. It did matter to him if something was wrong.

Mizu hugged him tightly and sobbed into his shirt.
"They're not sure if she'll make it.... They're not sure if either of them will make it.... Iwa's zoned out and I don't know if he even knows what's going on..." She felt a little better now that he was here, but the reality of Kay being hurt was still there.

Iwa hadn't noticed when a nurse explained things to Mizu, he hadn't noticed anything sense they got to the hospital. He was worried sick about what could happen to Kay.

It took all of Kay's strength to have the baby. It took several hours and when it was over it seemed that only a moment had passed. It was a girl.

Akio had been holding Mizu. An hour had passed since the delivery and he and Mizu decided to look in the nursery window. The baby was healthy - the same couldn't be said for Kay.

"We could have been treating this for a long time but it's just sat and now we have to work harder to kill the virus. If we'd known sooner it could have been taken care of at an early stage."

She was sick. Iwa still seemed nonexistent and Akio was making vows.

He never wanted to see this happen to Mizu.

Mizu smiled sadly at the baby, still worried for Kay. "She's so small..." She said in almost a whisper, her voice was horse from crying.

Iwa felt like crawling into a hole to die alone, after what he had done to Kay he didn't deserve anything else. He wished he could take on whatever pain she was going though. Some how make her better again. But there was nothing he could do.

"Yeah but they said she was healthy and right on schedule... a week early but good." Akio rubbed her arm and squeezed her gently. "She's beautiful though, I bet she'll be feisty."

"She is..." She said hugging him, she felt a little too warm, and tired. "I hope she will be, it'll be more fun that way."

Akio saw what was coming and moved to sit on a bench with her. It seemed that holding her was all he could do.

-Later again-

Kay and the baby were released from the hospital after what seemed like a long time. It hurt to walk and move around but she was doing better in the long run.

"Is Kay serious about leaving?" Akio asked. He knew it was wrong to venture like that but after overhearing a long conversation while sitting with Mizu he had to ask.

Mizu fell asleep in Akio's arms.


-later-

Mizu frowned. "I don't know... I'm afraid she might be.... Iwa's literally scared sick, he has a major fever off and on but he's not telling anyone... I only know cause I gave him a hug earlier. I told him to get some rest, I don't think he'll listen to me though..."

Akio looked out and shook his head, "Kay is a nice person. She wouldn't hurt your brother on purpose and I know that... besides, if I was her and I felt insecure with the fact that he avoided her for a whole two months I'd leave too. Sorry if that sounds terrible but... it happens."

She sighed. "Yeah... I'm not saying I don't understand... But... I think Iwa might actually die if he keeps this up... He hasn't slept in a week. He pretends to be fine, but if you can watch him when he doesn't know your there he's a wreck. He's working, but as few hours as he can to keep his job. He hasn't slept in days... I don't know what to do. It's the same thing he did when mom died, and he had to be hospitalised that time."

"But Kay isn't even dead and now they have a newborn baby here and she's working with cancer and taking care of the baby all at the same time! It's like he doesn't exist and it's not right!" Akio had never shown that much of a temper. He walked into the house.

It was then that they realized what a firecracker he was. He wouldn't tolerate it.

Iwa was working in the backyard making a crib for the baby. He really did look awful. He was worse than he had been that morning.

Mizu was surprised by Akito's tone, she had never heard him this angry before.

Reaching the backyard, Akio lightly, very lightly, kicked Iwa's back. He crossed his arms and stared down like an angry little brother.

"We need to talk." He said in a very harsh voice, "Now."

Iwa smiled and turned to him, his vision blurred slightly and he couldn't really see his face.
"Sure... What about?" He swayed a bit, and put a hand out to support himself. "Is something wrong?"

"Yes, you are wrong. Everything about this is wrong and it's making me sick!" He dragged Iwa to the window, pointing to the place where Kay was barely even awake, trying to feed Amber who was being fussy.

"SHE'S NOT FREAKING DEAD!" Akio spun him around and looked him in the eye, "And here you sit, depressed and half dead not even caring! THIS, SIR, is what got you here in the first place!"

"Huh? Of cores she's not dead." Iwa frowned he didn't have anything to lean against, he knew was going to fall over. "I do care... But what can I do?... I try to help but in the end I'm just in the way... It would probably be better if I wasn't here after all..." He swayed again and fell to the ground unconscious.

Akio didn't do anything to help the guy up. He was too angry.

"I see why Kay wants to leave." He said with a strained voice when he reached the front porch again, "The guy sounds like a drunk. I'm really mad right now so I think I'll cool off and pick you up for dinner later, okay?"

Mizu had no way of knowing what had happened so she just nodded.
"O... Okay...." She stammered, he really seamed mad, it kind of scared her.

She went to find Kay, in the bedroom feeding the baby.
"Hey..." She said quietly in almost a whisper.

Kay looked over and smiled, "Hi, Mizu." She sat up with Amber in her arms and set the bottle aside. She was sleeping anyway.

"Want to sit down? Anything wrong?" She asked. Despite having her own problems, Kay was quick to look beyond them and look out for others. She'd always been that way.
